WSUTA Conference 2014
The 2014 WSUTA
Conference was a tremendous success, with over 100 attendees embarking onto the
Queen Mary. The ships accommodations were first class, from the beautiful
Queens Salon where the conference was held to the elegant and historical hotel
rooms.
The first day started off with Revenue Protection Specialist (Retired) Cleve Freeman providing a resounding key note address describing the differences in Instinct vs. Intellect as a Revenue Protection Professional. Next was an excellent presentation on Stress Management for RP Professionals by John Wilson-CBLTAC. Anyone who has had an opportunity to hear John speak knows how much we enjoy what he brings to our conferences. Attorney Ken Whitall-Scherfee presented on Building a strong civil case for power theft damages. Arizona Public Service (APS) Paige Chatwood and Southwest Gas (SWG) Ken Baldwin provided a Gas and Electric energy theft and safety presentation. Many of our Vendors had an opportunity to display current and new products in the ongoing fight in protecting our revenue. Food and accommodations on the Queen Mary have been outstanding. The Vendor reception in the evening allowed RP Professionals and Vendors to discuss products in a very relaxing atmosphere. We were also treated to Queen Mary history from the Ships Commodore.
Day 2 – Curtis Melton from Oncor Energy got the day started well with an interesting perspective and presentation on combatting Energy Theft in Texas. Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office allowed ADA Ashley Rosen to discuss the information needed when prosecuting for Utility Theft in Medical Marijuana cases. Pacific Gas and Electric’s (PG&E) Jim Gibson hosted the Revenue Protection open forum panel discussion. WSUTA would like to thank Aaron Donohue (TID), Paige Chatwood (APS), Steve Montgomery (PG&E), Jeff Bolls (SCE), Larry Stepp (SDG&E), and Dan Christopher (SMUD) for taking questions from the conference members regarding some of the issues throughout the industry. Gary Fromm (MID), and Neil Singh (PG&E) displayed some wonderful and insightful Electric grid KW analytics information and how this data is changing energy theft detection. Author Enes Smith took us through his “One Minute Lie Detector” seminar. We also took a few moments to recognize the outstanding service provided to our industry by presenting our 2014 WSUTA Revenue Protection Professionals of the year. This was the first year for WSUTA and we were able to recognize two individuals: Gary Fromm and Jim Peterson. We also presented Lynda Steyaert and Cleve Freeman with plaques for their outstanding contributions to WSUTA over the years. Both are retired and continue to provide assistance.
Day 3 – Was WSUTA’s day for the Board meeting and election of new officers for the coming years.
Our 2015 President: Bryan Dezso (APS)
Vice President: Robert Salazar (SCE)
Treasurer: Aaron Donohue (TID)
Secretary: Paige Chatwood (APS)
Alternates: Neil Singh (PG&E)
David Sanchez (LADWP)
Matt Stock (NV Energy)
Vendor Representative: Inner-Tite
The elections were preceded by a presentation from Matt Stock: Is the future of Revenue Protection at risk?
Jim Peterson (PGE) then provided a Safety Certification Presentation: Setting yourself up for safety.
We made great strides this past year in ease of registration and the ability to register with a credit card. And look forward to the next year.
Please check back as we continue plan for 2015
